New to University?

Here is what you should bring

The first thing that many people wonder about is what they should pack prior to coming to Campbell Hall. Yes, believe it or not, amidst the hundreds of things you have packed, there are still things you ARE missing.

Stationary Products

This includes pens, pencils, paper, whiteout, calculator, three-hole punch, stapler, erasers, highlighters, Scotch tape, etc. Also, some printer paper for your non-wireless printer would probably be helpful, as well as some ink.

Personal Hygiene Products

If you are one of those people who do clean themselves more than once a year, make sure to pack: soap, shampoo, mouthwash, deoderant, tylenol, band-aids, hair-gel, shaving cream, toothbrush, toothpaste, towels and facecloths... You get the idea.

Electronics

This category speaks for itself; don't leave your laptop in Manitoba. Mom and Dad will be pretty unhappy if they have to mail that to you. Every room comes with a power bar or two, depending on whether one lives in a double or single (three for the triples, keep up now), but you may like to have one just in case. Cell phone, chargers, camera, perhaps a fan for the two weeks of nice weather we have (seriously, once October hits, you'll never need it again). One could bring a printer if one so chose, but be warned. Campbell Hall is very strict on wireless printers. Go out and buy the $13 USB cable for it. Wireless printers screw with the network and hog bandwidth. As one may assume with a residence of ~250 residents, if we're all connecting wirelessly and we all have wireless printers... Well, from experience, that often bodes badly, particularly for those with wireless printers, who happen to find that somebody somewhere else has printed half of the bible off in their printer. You can't say we didn't warn you.

Laundry & Cleaning

Each floor does contain a cleaning supplies room where you'll find a mop, some brooms, unless the other floors have stolen them on you (it might be best to invest $5 and buy one from WalMart), garbage bags and cleaning supplies to clean your room. Nevertheless you may want to pack: surface cleaner, paper towels, air freshener, laundry bag/basket, detergent, fabric softner, Bounce sheets, etc.

Miscellaneous

This section is mostly from personal experience, but don't worry if you forget any of this, mom or dad will send it in the mail: first of all, ANYTHING GREEN (it's is our House Color), an alarm clock (with a loud alarm to wake you up for those 8:30 classes), some slippers (great for roaming the halls). Also don't forget sticky tack (blue), as tacks are prohibited in Campbell Hall except for the bulletin board above the desk. Other things to remember are: hangers, pillows, an umbrella (it rains a lot in Sackville), driver's license, social insurance card, Medicare, passport, optionally a broom and a fan, and anything special you may want in your room. A lot of residents have whiteboards on their doors to indicate "where they are", though I'll be damned if I've ever seen anybody use it past Frosh Week unless they're an RA. Nevertheless, if you don't think you can bare being that one outcast without the coolest tech on campus, go nuts.
